TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH

What is HOPE?

Trinity Episcopal Church’s HOPE program is designed to Help Others by Providing Empathy. It is available to church members, as well as their families and friends. Its purpose is to help people journey through the difficult transitions caused by illness or other personal problems, and to turn their fears into hope. The program provides education and consultation to help people cope, and it helps point participants toward the road to recovery.

Why do we need HOPE?

While we agree there is an appropriate place and time to share the details of personal concerns, we also agree those in need of assistance should seek it, and their faith community can help.

Trinity Episcopal Church is introducing its HOPE program in an effort to Help Others by Providing Empathy. This program is designed to give church members, as well as their families and friends, permission to share what is happening with them. It offers us all an opportunity to tell our story, shed a tear, and to reconnect with our faith community .

Who can HOPE help?

Nearly everyone has a problem that is weighing heavy on their minds and hearts. Or, they have a close friend, relative or coworker who is struggling through a difficult life experience. Our culture sets boundaries as to when and where we should share our personal and emotional concerns, and with whom we should share them For example, we are encouraged not to talk about our personal problems at work.

People are beginning to challenge these “rules”, especially since discussion regarding issues such as divorce and bankruptcy— and illnesses such as depression, substance abuse, eating disorders and sexual dysfunction — has become more open. Even those who aren’t affected by a particular problem can find themselves dealing with the challenges of child care and elder care, often in the same day.

Who directs HOPE?

HOPE is led by Rev Dr Paul S. Rimassa, Vicar of Trinity Church, who has more than 25 years experience in pastoral counseling.  It offers one-on-one counseling session to help people better identify their concerns and problems and seek appropriate assistance.  Support groups may be formed if participation warrants.

“So many people invest so much energy in hold it all together that they forget help is available,” said Fr. Paul.  “While stress is exhausting, the support you get from a faith community is energizing.  Our HOPE program is designed, very simply, to sallow people to fee supported by their faith community  during difficult times.”
